WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY MATERNITY PHOTO SESSION?

Mostly I would recommend between 34 and 37 weeks when your bump is really blooming but you still have a bit of energy to be walking about. Everyone is different so you may find that your bump gets bigger earlier!

HOW LONG DOES A MATERNITY PHOTO SESSION LAST?

An hour is plenty of time if it's your first baby but you can book a 2 hour session if you would like to get older siblings in on the scene too. (highly recommended, see below!)

SHOULD I INVOLVE OLDER SIBLINGS IN THE PHOTO SESSION?

Absolutely! This is such an intriguing time for them so they will want to be right in there, hugging and kissing that beautiful bump that will be their new brother or sister. They will love to see these images when they are older, likewise the little person who was in your tummy :-)

WHERE IS BEST TO HAVE MY MATERNITY SESSION?

It's completely up to you whether you have your session in the comfort of your home or somewhere you are fond of outdoors. If you go for outdoors then I would choose somewhere which has accessible parking. You'll get a totally different feel to the images for both options. Either way, my aim is to capture beautifully natural shots whether it's hand in hand in your favourite park or cuddled up at home.

IF I CHOOSE MY HOME, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ROOM IS BEST FOR PHOTOGRAPHS?

All we need is a room with a good sized window that lets plenty of natural light in. This will most likely be the living room or the main bedroom. All you need to do is  pull up any blinds so that the room is as light as possible. Also ensure that the room is nice and warm if you want to expose that belly.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

The most important thing is that you are comfortable and you are wearing something that is totally you. Think about which items of clothing you own that would show off your bump to it's best. Consider also if you are to be outdoors and the time of year. A classic denim jacket paired with a wrap/maxi dress will always look great. If you have your shoot at home you could wear a simple vest top or cami along with other favourite relax wear items. Some mums-to-be like to wear a special outfit they have chosen which is fabulous, but at the same time, a stretchy top or figure hugging dress in plain colours is absolutely fine. You can instantly dress it up with a simple necklace should you wish. Avoid very loud patterns or clothing that has wording as this can be a distraction from you and that gorgeous bump.

HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL?

My base is Rosewell in Midlothian and generally I will cover Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian and some of the Borders. If you choose a location outside 25 miles of my base then I do charge for mileage which will be 50 pence per mile.

If I haven't covered a question you may have then please do get in touch and I will be able to help.

Kirsty took photos of me when I was pregnant then when my daughter was born and also at a family meal to celebrate my grans 90th birthday. Kirsty is very professional and friendly. She made all the shoots very relaxed which was important to me.
